When a developer creates a new Anthos application, they build it as a Docker image. An Anthos application is then deployed by uploading that Docker image to the Anthos Universal Container Registry, which is available as an Azure service. The Azure service allows the application image to be accessible anywhere – even on premises if you want to take advantage of the security and isolation of Anthos and the Azure discovery service.
Support for multiple clouds – Anthos is a cloud management platform that makes it easier for enterprises to run applications across various clouds. It is based on Apache Mesos, a cluster manager that provides a shared infrastructure for applications and services. Anthos makes it easy to run applications across multiple clouds. Anthos allows you to use a single set of tools to manage applications on-premises and in any cloud. This is enabled by the Apache Mesos framework in Anthos. Support for multiple programming languages – Anthos uses Docker containers to create isolated instances of code, but as of now, it only supports a single programming language per container. Anthos allows you to use multiple containers, so you could use one container to run a Ruby on Rails app and another container to run Node.js. However, you can’t use multiple containers that both support Ruby on Rails and Node.js. The Anthos documentation provides this example of one way you could deploy multiple containers: “For example, one container could run a Node.js app, while another container runs an Apache Tomcat server that hosts a Java app.”
AWS Outposts vs Azure Stack vs Google Anthos
Given that Anthos is compatible with the majority of current server hardware, Google provides the most flexibility in supporting various hardware for constructing the on-premises components of a hybrid architecture. In order to create a hybrid cloud with Anthos, businesses may either employ the on-premises gear they already have or spend less money on commodity servers.
Anthos fully supports multi-cloud architectures as it is essentially a Kubernetes distribution that may run on a variety of different cloud infrastructures concurrently and is not tethered to GCP in particular. Outposts and Azure Stack are not multi-cloud solutions. IT teams cannot integrate them with other public clouds because they are only compatible with their individual clouds, Azure or AWS. Because the underlying architectures differ, moving a workload that has been deployed on Azure Stack or Outposts to another infrastructure or platform might be challenging. With Anthos, moving your application to another Kubernetes-based environment is far more feasible and requires significantly less changes.
